LegalPrivacy Policy
What we collect, why we collect it, and what we flatly refuse to do with your data.
The short version: we collect the minimum needed to run your account, take your payment, and teach you — nothing more. We never sell your data, never run ad trackers, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you want to see, fix, export, or delete what we hold, email privacy@devcourselab.com and we will answer within 30 days.
1. Who we are
DevCourseLab is the trading name of BUSBY BRIONA RAQUEL LLC, a Texas limited liability company based at 6468 County Road 2520, Royse City, TX 75189. We have been teaching software engineering online since 2026 through live video sessions in small cohorts.
For the purposes of privacy law, BUSBY BRIONA RAQUEL LLC is the “data controller” for the information described in this policy. When we say “we”, “us”, or “our” below, we mean that company.
2. What we collect
We collect only what a course studio actually needs:
- Account details. Your name, email address, a password (stored only as a hash), and your date of birth (used only to confirm you meet the 18+ age requirement — see section 3).
- Payment data. Card details go directly to our payment processor, Stripe — they never touch our servers, and we never see or store full card numbers. We keep only the receipt-level facts: the amount paid, the date, the last four digits, and the payment status Stripe reports back to us.
- Course progress. Which lessons you have opened, assignments and code you submit, mentor feedback and review comments, quiz or placement results, and your attendance in live sessions.
- Communications. Emails you send us, messages to mentors, community posts, and support requests. Live sessions are recorded so students can catch up; recordings are shared only within your cohort.
- Technical data. Your IP address, browser type and version, device type, and basic log data (pages visited, timestamps). We use this to keep the site secure and to diagnose problems — see our Cookie Policy for details.
3. Age requirements
Our courses are designed for adults, and you must be at least 18 years old to create an account and enroll.
- No under-18 accounts. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws. If we learn that someone under 18 has registered, we delete the account and its data promptly.
- Nothing extra collected. For adult learners we collect only the categories listed in section 2 — nothing more. We do not profile students or use their work for marketing without explicit written permission.
- Questions. If you have questions about this policy or believe someone under 18 has provided us data, write to privacy@devcourselab.com and we will respond within 30 days.
4. How we use your data
We use the information above to:
- create and manage your account and enroll you in courses;
- process payments and issue receipts, refunds, and invoices;
- deliver live sessions, record them for your cohort, grade your work, and give you mentor feedback;
- communicate with you about your courses, schedule changes, and support requests;
- send our monthly newsletter, only if you subscribed (every email has a one-click unsubscribe);
- keep the site secure, prevent fraud and account sharing, and debug technical problems;
- meet legal and tax obligations, such as keeping purchase records.
We do not use automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you. Placement quizzes are advisory and always reviewed by a human mentor.
5. What we never do
Some promises deserve their own section:
- We never sell your personal information — not to advertisers, data brokers, recruiters, or anyone else.
- We never share your data with ad networks or allow advertising or cross-site tracking pixels on devcourselab.com.
- We never use student work or names in marketing without asking first and getting your explicit written permission.
- We never train machine-learning models on your code, assignments, or session recordings.
6. Third-party services we rely on
Running an online school requires a handful of outside services. Each receives only the data it needs to do its job:
- Stripe — processes payments. Stripe receives your card details and billing information under its own privacy policy; we receive only confirmation and receipt data.
- Our video hosting provider — streams live sessions and stores cohort recordings. It receives your display name and the technical data needed to stream video.
- Our email service provider — delivers transactional email (receipts, password resets, session reminders) and the newsletter if you subscribe. It receives your name and email address.
- Our analytics tool — a privacy-friendly, aggregate analytics service that counts page views without cookies or cross-site tracking. It receives no account data.
We require each provider to protect your data and use it only for the service they provide to us. If we ever change or add a provider that materially affects your data, we will update this policy first.
7. How long we keep your data
- Account data is kept while your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove personal data within 90 days, except what the law requires us to keep.
- Purchase and invoice records are kept for 7 years to satisfy US tax and accounting obligations. These records are held separately and are not used for anything else.
- Session recordings are kept for the duration of your course plus 12 months, then deleted.
- Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe, then removed from our mailing system.
8. Your rights
Regardless of where you live, we extend the same core rights to every student:
- Access — a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction — fix anything that is wrong or out of date.
- Deletion — erase your account and personal data, subject to the legal retention noted above.
- Export — your data in a common, machine-readable format.
To exercise any of these, email privacy@devcourselab.com from the address on your account. We will respond within 30 days. There is no charge, and we will never treat you worse for asking.
9. How we protect your data
We are a small company, which means fewer systems to defend and fewer people with access. Concretely:
- all traffic to devcourselab.com is encrypted in transit (TLS);
- passwords are stored only as salted hashes — we cannot see them;
- card data never reaches our servers (see section 2);
- staff access to student data is limited to the mentors and support people who need it, protected by unique credentials and two-factor authentication;
- we review access and retention annually and delete what we no longer need.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever affects your personal data, we will notify you promptly and tell you what happened, what it affects, and what we are doing about it.
10. Changes to this policy & how to reach us
If we change this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top and, for material changes, email active students at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Older versions are available on request.
Questions, requests, or complaints about privacy — we read every one:
